HONEY SAID YES: Media Entrepreneur Elayne Fluker on Moving to Mexico

HONEY SAID YES explores the adventures, risks, and different ways of living Honeys have said yes to! Our second installment features an interview with Elayne Fluker, founder of AnnaBell Media Productions, host of Support is Sexy podcast and author of Get Over ‘I Got It’.

A little bit about Elayne: A longtime writer, content creator, and media entrepreneur, Elayne has spent over two decades shaping narratives across journalism, digital media, podcasting, and television. After graduating from Hampton University, she began her career as a journalist at Essence magazine, later writing and editing for outlets such as People and Martha Stewart Living. In 2012, she launched ChicRebellion.tv, one of the first digital streaming platforms centering Black women’s stories, followed by her acclaimed Support is Sexy podcast in 2016—featuring over 500 women leaders and surpassing 1 million downloads. She is also the author of Get Over “I Got It” (HarperCollins Leadership, 2021), encouraging ambitious women to embrace support and self-worth. A devoted reader and researcher of contemporary Black storytelling, Elayne has read more than 400 Black romance novels in less than two years — a passion that deepened her understanding of the voices, themes, and emotional truths driving the genre, and of the passionate readers who would love seeing these stories in motion. That immersion now fuels AnnaBelle Media’s vision to adapt and elevate these stories for the screen.

I had the pleasure of meeting Elayne during my time in the publishing world. She is an OG magazine editor. She’s also been a personal inspiration for me, even influencing my decision to buy a place in Playa del Carmen just last month.
